The Sustainable Social Development Organization, IOM, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark collaborate to address trafficking and smuggling issues in Pakistan through a multi-sectoral approach, legislative reforms, and community engagement.

The Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO), in partnership with the International Organization of Migration (IOM) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, recently organized a Provincial Dialogue in Islamabad to tackle the critical issues of Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in Pakistan. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including community representatives, academia, religious leaders, law enforcement agencies, parliamentarians, and government officials.

During the dialogue, various aspects of the problem were discussed, with a focus on the importance of collaborative efforts in combating these challenges. The need for a multi-sectoral approach to address the root causes and protect the rights of vulnerable individuals was emphasized by Syed Kausar Abbas, the Executive Director of SSDO. Insights from different stakeholders, including the transgender community, religious leaders, travel agents, and government officials, shed light on the complexities and highlighted the necessity for stricter regulations and comprehensive strategies.

MPAs Sheikh Imtiaz, Waqas Maan, and Uzma Kardar stressed the importance of legislative reforms and capacity building to effectively address trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. They highlighted the progress made by Pakistan in implementing laws related to these issues but emphasized the need for further awareness campaigns and rule development at the provincial level for smooth implementation.

In conclusion, the collaborative efforts of SSDO, IOM, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark were acknowledged for their successful awareness sessions and the emphasis on community engagement. The importance of victim support services, increased awareness, and the effective implementation of anti-trafficking laws were reiterated, underscoring the necessity for continued dialogue and partnership among stakeholders.
