Hafiz Naeem of Jamaat-e-Islami announces nationwide protests on September 29, addressing democracy and Gaza solidarity.

In a significant move, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami, has announced a nationwide protest plan set for September 29, 2023. This decision comes in the wake of ongoing political tensions in Pakistan, where various parties are grappling with internal divisions and public dissatisfaction. The protests aim to address pressing issues such as the restoration of democracy and the supremacy of the constitution, which many believe are under threat.

During a rally in Hyderabad, Hafiz Naeem emphasized the importance of collective action, stating, "First we went for shutter-down strike, now we will go for a wheel-jam strike." This statement reflects the escalating frustration among citizens regarding the government's handling of various crises. He pointed out the fragmentation within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, highlighting that the arrest of their leader has led to significant disarray. In contrast, he asserted that Jamaat-e-Islami possesses a well-structured electoral setup, which he believes is crucial for effective political representation.

Hafiz Naeem also expressed solidarity with the people of Gaza, who have been enduring a prolonged conflict. He stated, "We cannot forget the people of Gaza. It’s been a year that they are fighting a war and they haven’t surrendered yet." The loss of life, particularly among women and children, has been staggering, with reports indicating that around 45,000 individuals have been killed. This humanitarian crisis has prompted Hafiz Naeem to call upon leaders who are "eager to accept Israel" to instead rally for the Palestinian cause on October 7.

Furthermore, he urged the government to engage with the public on this critical issue, suggesting that they should "spare one hour and lead people to speak up for Palestine." This call to action is not just for political leaders but extends to students as well, encouraging them to leave their institutions and show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

In addition to international concerns, Hafiz Naeem addressed domestic issues, particularly the burden of illegal power bills on consumers. He stated, "The rulers who burdened us with illegal power bills should compensate consumers of power distribution companies." This statement underscores the growing frustration among citizens regarding rising utility costs and the perceived lack of accountability from those in power.

As the date for the protests approaches, it is clear that Hafiz Naeem and Jamaat-e-Islami are determined to mobilize public sentiment around these critical issues. The upcoming protests not only reflect the political landscape of Pakistan but also highlight the interconnectedness of local and global struggles for justice and democracy. As citizens prepare to take to the streets, the hope is that their voices will resonate, prompting meaningful change in both domestic policies and international relations.
