Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, was arrested in connection with a corruption case, leading to riots and condemnation by top officials in Pakistan.

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested on May 9, 2023, by Rangers personnel at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. The arrest took place at the IHC's biometric verification department, where Rangers were seen breaking into the room to apprehend him.

Following Khan's arrest, PTI supporters engaged in acts of vandalism against military and civil installations in protest. This resulted in the arrest of 102 individuals, including PTI workers and leaders, for their involvement in the attacks on various military establishments nationwide.

Some PTI leaders distanced themselves from the party or temporarily withdrew from politics, condemning the violence against military installations. Initially, there was a proposal to try the suspects in military courts, but this decision was overturned by a Supreme Court bench on October 23.

Today marks a black day in Pakistan as the nation commemorates the first anniversary of the May 9, 2023, riots. President Asif Ali Zardari and the Prime Minister have strongly denounced the violence, stressing the importance of safeguarding the nation's integrity.
