ISPR DG Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif sets strict conditions for potential dialogue with PTI, emphasizing the need for a public apology, commitment to constructive politics, and abandonment of anarchy.

Recently, ISPR DG Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif outlined strict conditions for potential dialogue with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, underscoring the necessity for a public apology, a commitment to constructive politics, and the abandonment of anarchy. These conditions were emphasized in a press conference held in Rawalpindi before May 9, a date significant for past events involving PTI founder Imran Khan.

Gen Sharif stressed the importance of PTI refraining from actions that could harm the army, sow divisions, insult martyrs, issue threats, or spread propaganda. He made it clear that any dialogue with PTI could only proceed if the party publicly apologizes, promises to engage in constructive politics, and renounces the politics of anarchy. Furthermore, Gen Sharif highlighted that dialogues should be strictly between political parties without any interference from the army.

The ISPR DG's remarks set a firm tone for any potential dialogue with PTI, making it clear that certain conditions must be met for such discussions to take place. The emphasis on public apology, commitment to constructive politics, and the avoidance of actions detrimental to the army underscores the seriousness with which the military views the prospect of engaging with PTI. Moving forward, it remains to be seen how PTI will respond to these conditions and whether a dialogue between the party and the military can be initiated.
