NAB delegation reviews the digitization of land records in Punjab, highlighting transparency and efficiency in property transactions.
The digitization of land records in Punjab is a significant step towards modernizing the way property ownership is managed in Pakistan. With the increasing population and urbanization, the need for a reliable and efficient land record system has become more crucial than ever. The Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) has been at the forefront of this initiative, aiming to streamline land transactions and enhance transparency.
Recently, a delegation from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore, led by Director NAB Imran Sohail, visited the PLRA head office to gain insights into the ongoing digitization efforts. This visit underscores the importance of having accurate and accessible land records, not just for the public but also for regulatory bodies like NAB, which rely on these records for their investigations.
During the visit, the Additional Director General Technical of PLRA, Zahid Sohail, along with Director IT Osama-bin-Saeed, provided a comprehensive briefing on the services offered by the authority. They highlighted that an impressive 93% of Punjab's land records have already been computerized. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the PLRA team, who are committed to bringing private housing societies under the registration ambit. This means that instead of relying on informal allotment letters, property owners will now have formal registrations, which adds a layer of security and legitimacy to property transactions.
Director NAB Imran Sohail emphasized the benefits of digital access to land records, stating that it would significantly facilitate NAB's investigations. The shift from traditional file systems to modern security papers issued by regulators is a crucial move towards ensuring that property dealings are transparent and secure. The delegation was particularly impressed with the various online services offered by PLRA, including individual verification and property transfer, which can now be accessed from any district or tehsil in Punjab.
The efforts of PLRA have not gone unnoticed. The NAB team expressed their appreciation for the initiatives taken by the authority, believing that these advancements will lead to better services for the public and help reduce issues related to land ownership. In recognition of their hard work, the NAB delegation presented a shield to Zahid Sohail and Osama-bin-Saeed, acknowledging their contributions to this vital project.
The digitization of land records in Punjab is not just a technological upgrade; it is a necessary evolution in how land ownership is managed in the province. As more records become accessible online, it is expected that the public will benefit from increased transparency and efficiency in property transactions. This initiative is a step towards a more organized and accountable system, paving the way for a brighter future in land management in Pakistan.
