PTI protests escalate as the Red Zone in Islamabad is sealed, causing major traffic disruptions and nationwide demonstrations planned by Imran Khan.

In recent days, the political landscape in Pakistan has become increasingly tense as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party prepares for a series of protests. The government has responded by sealing off the Red Zone in Islamabad, a highly sensitive area that houses key government buildings and foreign embassies. This move comes as PTI, led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, calls for nationwide demonstrations aimed at supporting the independence of the judiciary.

Officials have placed containers on major roads leading to the Red Zone, effectively blocking access and creating significant traffic disruptions. Only Margalla Road remains open, but even that has seen increased congestion as commuters attempt to navigate the altered routes. The roadblocks extend to Faizabad on the Express Highway, leading to long queues of vehicles and considerable delays for early morning commuters heading to work and school.

Despite the government's efforts to curb the protests, PTI's leadership has expressed unwavering determination to proceed with their planned rallies across Punjab. Imran Khan has called for demonstrations in various cities, including Mianwali, Bahawalpur, and Faisalabad, culminating in a major gathering at D-Chowk in Islamabad this Friday. This call to action follows a series of recent events that have heightened tensions between PTI and the authorities.

Last month, ten PTI Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) were arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the newly enforced Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024 after a rally in Sangjani, near Islamabad. Additionally, a PTI rally in Lahore on September 21 was forcibly dispersed by law enforcement after it exceeded the 6 PM deadline set by authorities. In Rawalpindi, security measures have been intensified, with containers blocking access to the planned protest site at Liaquat Bagh.

The current situation raises important questions about the balance between maintaining public order and allowing citizens to express their political views. While the government aims to prevent potential unrest, the actions taken against PTI supporters may further inflame tensions. As the protests loom, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold and what impact it will have on Pakistan's political climate.
