PM Shehbaz Sharif convenes Apex Committee to review counter-terrorism measures and enhance national security in Pakistan.
In recent years, Pakistan has faced significant challenges related to terrorism and extremism. The government has been actively working to address these issues through various strategies and initiatives. One of the key frameworks guiding these efforts is the National Action Plan (NAP), which was established to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of citizens across the country.
On Monday, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif convened a crucial meeting of the Apex Committee, a body formed under the NAP. This meeting brought together civil and military leadership, including the Defence Minister, Interior Minister, and other cabinet members. The chief ministers of all provinces, along with representatives from Gilgit-Baltistan, were also present, highlighting the collaborative approach needed to tackle the pressing issue of terrorism.
According to sources, the primary focus of the meeting was to review the overall law and order situation in Pakistan, with particular attention to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. These regions have been significantly affected by terrorist activities, making it imperative for the government to assess the effectiveness of ongoing operations and strategies. The Apex Committee is expected to receive updates on intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist groups operating within the country.
During the meeting, the broader national security landscape will also be discussed. This is essential for making informed decisions that will contribute to the eradication of terrorism. In a previous gathering, the Apex Committee had approved a revitalized national counter-terrorism campaign, launching Operation ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’. This operation symbolizes a united front against extremism, with the consensus of all stakeholders, including provincial governments and regional authorities.
“Azm-e-Istehkam will integrate and synergize multiple lines of effort to combat the menaces of extremism and terrorism in a comprehensive and decisive manner,” stated a press release from the PM Office Media Wing. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to not only address the immediate threats posed by terrorism but also to foster a long-term strategy for peace and stability in the region.
As the meeting unfolds, it is crucial for the leadership to remain focused on the ultimate goal: ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. The fight against terrorism is not just a military endeavor; it requires a holistic approach that includes community engagement, education, and economic development. By working together and implementing effective strategies, Pakistan can hope to create a safer environment for future generations.
