The recent by-elections in Pakistan saw PML-N emerge victorious, reshaping the political landscape amidst heightened security measures.

The recent by-elections in Pakistan saw the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerge victorious, securing two National Assembly seats and 10 provincial assembly seats, based on unofficial results. The by-elections were conducted on 21 seats amidst heightened security measures, including the suspension of cellular and internet services in certain districts of Punjab and Balochistan to ensure law and order.

Key political parties such as PML-N, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) participated in the by-polls, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl chose to boycott the elections. Preliminary results indicated PML-N's dominance with wins in both National and provincial assembly seats, followed by victories for PPP, SIC, and independent candidates.

Despite isolated incidents of violence, overall law and order was maintained. Notably, a supporter of PML-N lost his life in a clash with PTI voters in Punjab. The Election Committee of Pakistan is yet to release the final results, but private media channels have shared outcomes based on individual polling stations.

The by-elections were necessitated after the general elections held on February 8, where certain seats were vacated by prominent leaders like Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The federal government, in coordination with the Election Commission of Pakistan, implemented temporary suspensions of cellular services in specific districts to safeguard the electoral process.

In conclusion, the by-election results have reshaped the political landscape in Pakistan, with PML-N consolidating its position and other parties making significant gains. The peaceful conduct of the by-polls amidst security challenges underscores the commitment to upholding democratic processes in the country.
