President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to address the joint session of the parliament, marking the beginning of the parliamentary year post general elections. The session holds significance as it allows the President to communicate the reasons for summoning the parliament and set the legislative agenda.

President Asif Ali Zardari is set to address the joint session of the parliament on April 16, marking the commencement of the parliamentary year post the general elections. The joint session is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 16, at 1600 hours, as per a press release from the President House.

President Zardari will deliver his address in accordance with Article 56 (3) of the Constitution, which mandates that 'At the commencement of the first session after each general election to the National Assembly and at the commencement of the first session of each year, the President shall address both Houses assembled together and inform the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) of the causes of its summons.'

The summoning of the joint parliamentary session by President Zardari is an exercise of the authority granted under Articles 54 (1) and 56(3) of the Constitution. Prior to this, President Zardari had called for a Senate session to convene at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Tuesday at 09:00 am.
