A PTI assembly member in Peshawar leads a protest against power loadshedding, emphasizing cooperation and accountability to combat electricity theft and enhance power distribution efficiency.

An incident unfolded in Peshawar recently when a member of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spearheaded a protest against power loadshedding. The assembly member, accompanied by a group of demonstrators, took action by entering the Rehman Baba Grid Station to restore electricity to areas grappling with significant losses due to electricity theft and unpaid bills.

Following discussions with officials from Peshawar Electric Supply Corporation (PESCO), a consensus was reached to recommence power supply to the affected regions, with a commitment to restrict loadshedding to 10 hours. The assembly member made a promise to collaborate in eradicating unauthorized power connections and theft, commonly referred to as the 'kunda' system.

Initiatives are underway to diminish loadshedding in the locality, with community leaders vowing to ensure the settlement of outstanding dues. Stressing the importance of addressing staffing shortages at WAPDA, the power utility, the assembly member advocated for the issuance of monthly bills to deter electricity theft.

The protest led by the PTI assembly member in Peshawar sheds light on the pressing issue of power loadshedding and electricity theft. The agreement reached with PESCO signifies a step towards alleviating the challenges faced by communities dealing with power shortages. By emphasizing cooperation and accountability, efforts are being made to enhance the efficiency of power distribution and combat unauthorized practices. It is imperative for stakeholders to work together towards sustainable solutions that ensure reliable electricity access for all.
