The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) raises concerns over crackdown on party members ahead of significant by-polls, highlighting issues of treatment, communication disruptions, and electoral process scrutiny.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised concerns over a crackdown on party leaders and workers following the announcement of the by-poll schedule for 21 national and provincial seats. PTI's Secretary Information, Raoof Hasan, stated that raids are being conducted post the by-election announcement, with reports of ill-treatment towards party workers' families becoming a routine. Notably, woman leaders such as Aliya Hamza Malik, Sanam Javaid, and Dr. Yasmin Rashid are reportedly still in jail, with allegations of inadequate medical assistance for Malik, who is suffering from malaria.

Furthermore, PTI's spokesperson accused jail authorities of neglecting the health of detainees and claimed that returning officers were being coerced into signing blank papers. Those who refused to comply allegedly faced torture. Hasan hinted at a surprise strategy for the upcoming electoral event, emphasizing the party's determination to make an impact.

In response to the upcoming by-polls, the closure of mobile phone services has sparked criticism. Hasan highlighted the recurrence of such service disruptions, citing a previous instance during the February 8 elections. The Punjab authorities have formally requested the suspension of mobile internet services in 13 districts and tehsils to maintain law and order on April 21.

The by-polls, scheduled for 21 national and provincial constituencies, mark a significant electoral event post the February 8 elections. Notable contests include seats vacated by prominent figures such as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Punjab, and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in Sindh. The by-polls aim to fill vacant seats in various assemblies, with heightened scrutiny on the electoral process and security measures.

The allegations raised by PTI regarding the treatment of party members and the disruptions in communication services ahead of the by-polls underscore the tense political climate surrounding the electoral process. As the nation prepares for the by-elections, the focus remains on ensuring transparency, fairness, and security throughout the voting process.
