MQM Raises Concerns Over Security Situation in Sindh

Members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in the National Assembly have raised serious concerns over the escalating security situation and surge in street crimes across various parts of Sindh. The MQM representatives sought the federal government's intervention to address the deteriorating law and order conditions in the province.

During a session, MQM's Sabheen Ghouri highlighted the increasing incidents of suicide bombings and street crimes, including snatching and gun violence in cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, and Kashmore. The MQM members criticized the Information Minister's response, emphasizing the need for federal support in controlling terrorism and enhancing security measures.

The Information Minister assured the house of the government's commitment to combat terrorism and collaborate with provinces to strengthen their capacity to tackle security challenges. He mentioned ongoing initiatives such as the Safe City project in Karachi and the draft policy for National Counter Violent Extremism 2024 awaiting federal cabinet approval.

Opposition members, particularly from the PTI, expressed discontent over the government's handling of security issues and accused the previous administrations of failing to effectively implement the National Action Plan. The debate also touched upon the sensitive topic of negotiations with militants and the impact on regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

MQM's Nikhat Shakeel and other lawmakers urged for concrete actions, including compensation for victims of street crimes and a more proactive role by both federal and provincial authorities in ensuring public safety.

The session witnessed heated exchanges between government and opposition members, reflecting the growing frustration over the persistent security challenges in Sindh and the need for coordinated efforts to address them.
