Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Shah announces outsourcing of Thar Lodges to enhance services and attract investors.
KARACHI: In a significant move aimed at enhancing the quality of accommodation and food services for investors in Thar, Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has announced that the Thar Lodges, currently managed by the Sindh Coal Authority, will be outsourced. This decision is part of a broader strategy to attract both local and foreign investors to the region, while ensuring that the ownership of these lodges remains firmly with the Sindh government.
During a recent meeting, Minister Shah emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in service delivery. He instructed the Energy Department to thoroughly review all legal aspects related to this outsourcing initiative and to provide recommendations. The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Director General of the Sindh Coal Authority, Haq Nawaz Shar, and the Managing Director of the Thar Coal Energy Board, Tariq Ali Shah.
Minister Shah made it clear that he will not tolerate any form of corruption, legal violations, or misconduct by employees within the department. He proposed the establishment of a Rules and Regulation Committee to oversee the promotion and recruitment processes, ensuring that merit and transparency are upheld. This initiative is expected to foster a more accountable and efficient working environment within the Sindh Coal Authority.
Addressing budgetary concerns and operational challenges faced by the Sindh Coal Authority, Shah highlighted the need for innovative solutions, including the concept of coal bracketing. He also praised the Thar Airport, describing it as a source of pride for the Sindh government and the first provincial-level airport in the country. He called for improvements in airport services and suggested that civil aviation experts be consulted to enhance operational standards. Furthermore, he expressed the intention to invite the Prime Minister to visit the airport, showcasing its significance.
In a bid to streamline operations, Minister Shah directed that all disabled vehicles belonging to the Sindh Coal Authority be auctioned off, provided all legal requirements are met. He also proposed organizing training courses for all District Development Officers (DDOs) to familiarize them with the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) and other relevant laws.
