The U19 Women’s T20 Tournament 2024 begins today in Lahore, featuring 75 young cricketers competing for a PKR 1.1 million prize pool.
The U19 Women’s T20 Tournament 2024 is set to kick off today in Lahore, marking a significant event in the realm of women’s cricket in Pakistan. This tournament aims to showcase the talent of young female cricketers, providing them with a platform to shine and potentially secure a place in the national team. Five teams—Challengers, Conquerors, Invincibles, Stars, and Strikers—will compete in a double-league format. Each team is scheduled to play eight matches, leading to an exciting finale on November 3, where the top two teams will battle for the championship. All matches will take place at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground (LCCA), with two matches held daily. The first match will commence at 9:00 AM, followed by the second match at 1:00 PM PKT.
This year’s tournament will feature 75 young cricketers, all vying for a prize pool of PKR 1.1 million. The winning team will receive PKR 0.5 million, while the runners-up will take home PKR 0.3 million. Such financial incentives not only motivate the players but also highlight the increasing investment in women’s sports in Pakistan.
Among the participants, eight players have previously represented Pakistan in the U19 squad during the Women’s U19 Tri-Nation tournament in Bangladesh. These players include Areesha Ansari, Komal Khan, Laiba Nasir, Maham Anaees, Memoona Khalid, Ravail Farhan, Samiya Afsar, and Zoofishan Ayyaz. Their experience will undoubtedly add depth to their respective teams and raise the competitive spirit of the tournament.
The tournament is not just about competition; it is also an opportunity for these young athletes to showcase their skills and potentially earn a spot in the Pakistan Women’s U19 team for upcoming international events, including the ACC U19 T20 tournament and the ICC U19 Women’s T20 in Malaysia scheduled for January 2025.
Players from 15 different cities, including Abbottabad, Bahawalpur, and Mardan, will come together, reflecting the diverse talent pool across the country. The selection of these players was conducted through open trials organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board, ensuring that the best talents are given a chance to shine.
