Huawei unveils the Maextro S800, a luxury EV featuring advanced technology and competitive pricing in the ultra-luxury sedan market.
In a significant development in the automotive industry, Huawei, a leading Chinese technology company, has partnered with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) to launch a new luxury car brand named Maextro. This collaboration has resulted in the introduction of the Maextro S800, a high-end electric vehicle (EV) that aims to compete in the ultra-luxury sedan market. The unveiling of this model took place at Huawei's recent product launch event, where it was announced that pre-orders are now open for interested buyers.
The Maextro S800 is priced between RMB 1 million (approximately $137,870) and RMB 1.5 million, making it a premium offering in the luxury car segment. To secure a reservation, potential customers are required to place a deposit of RMB 20,000. Richard Yu, the managing director and chairman of Huawei's smart car solutions division, emphasized the vehicle's impressive dimensions, which include a length of 5,480 mm, a width of 2,000 mm, and a height of 1,536 mm, along with a wheelbase of 3,370 mm. This makes the Maextro S800 one of the largest sedans available, potentially surpassing 99.99 percent of sedans currently on the road.
One of the standout features of the Maextro S800 is its incorporation of Huawei's second-generation Tuling Intelligent Chassis, designed to enhance the driving experience. The vehicle is built according to the L3 intelligent driving framework, which indicates a high level of automation and advanced technology. Although Huawei did not provide extensive details about the model or a specific launch timeline during the event, a video released on Maextro's official Weibo account showcased some of the car's exterior features, generating excitement among potential buyers.
Maextro is the fourth new brand launched by Huawei in collaboration with domestic automakers, and it holds a prominent position within the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA). The other brands under this initiative include Stelato, developed with BAIC Group, Aito, co-created with Seres Group, and Luxeed, co-founded with Chery. The Maextro S800 is positioned to compete with established luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series, Audi A8, and the Nio ET9, which was recently revealed with a pre-sale price of RMB 800,000 and expected deliveries in early 2025.
