Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Launches Free Wi-Fi Services in City Parks

In a significant move aimed at enhancing the digital experience for residents and visitors of Karachi, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced the provision of free Wi-Fi services at various parks and recreational spots across the city. This initiative was unveiled during the inauguration of free Wi-Fi at Frere Hall, a historic landmark in Karachi, where the Mayor emphasized the importance of internet accessibility in today’s digital age.

The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, who joined the Mayor in celebrating this new facility. Barrister Wahab highlighted that the availability of free Wi-Fi at Frere Hall would enable visitors to easily access the internet and social media, catering to the needs of a tech-savvy population that increasingly relies on smartphones.

As part of this initiative, the Mayor announced that free Wi-Fi would also be extended to other popular parks such as Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, Kidney Hill Park, Hill Park, and Safari Park. This expansion aims to benefit the public by providing them with the opportunity to stay connected while enjoying the beauty of nature and recreational activities.

During his address, the Mayor pointed out the necessity of establishing restaurants, IT centers, and other recreational facilities within major parks. He raised an important question regarding the disparity in access to such amenities, comparing the situation to elite clubs like the Gymkhana, and advocating for similar facilities to be made available to the lower and middle classes.

In addition to the Wi-Fi services, Barrister Wahab announced that the library section of Frere Hall has been air-conditioned, creating a more comfortable environment for visitors. He also revealed plans to introduce classes for traditional musical instruments such as the tabla, piano, and sitar, along with calligraphy and painting classes. These initiatives aim to promote the rich cultural heritage of the region, with the Sadequain Gallery being utilized for teaching calligraphy, honoring the legacy of the renowned calligrapher.

Moreover, the Mayor expressed his vision for fostering a society that values tolerance and love for the city. He stated that the free Wi-Fi at Frere Hall would be available 24/7, supporting up to 2,000 users simultaneously, ensuring that everyone can benefit from this service. Traditional music performances are also set to be organized at Frere Hall, adding an entertaining dimension to the cultural offerings of the venue.
