A tragic incident involving Karnataka hikers in Uttarakhand, leading to casualties and ongoing rescue efforts.

Recently, a group of hikers from Karnataka faced a devastating turn of events during their trek in Uttarakhand. Four hikers lost their lives due to harsh weather conditions, while thirteen others were successfully rescued, with eight airlifted to safety in Dehradun. The trek, organized by Himalayan View Trekking Agency, started on May 29 from Uttarkashi, covering a 35-km route. The group comprised 22 members, including 18 from Karnataka, one from Maharashtra, and three local guides.

An extensive rescue operation, involving the Indian Air Force (IAF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities, is currently underway to save the remaining stranded hikers. The District Magistrate of Garhwal is leading the rescue efforts, supported by an IAF helicopter. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has also joined the mission in Dehradun to oversee the operation.

The tragic incident unfolded when the trekkers encountered severe weather conditions, including a blizzard, while trying to return to their camp. Prompt action was taken upon receiving distress signals from the Karnataka group, leading to a collaborative rescue effort with the Uttarakhand Government, Mountaineering Federation of India, and the Home Department of the Central Government.
