LONDON: The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites recently made a significant impact at the World Travel Market 2024 in London. This event is a major platform for showcasing tourism and travel opportunities from around the globe. The Saudi delegation, led by the Royal Commission, highlighted Makkah's rich cultural and historical significance through various key projects.

Among the initiatives presented were the Hira Cultural District, the Revelation Exhibition, the Kiswa Factory of the Holy Kaaba, and the Institute of Manuscripts and Revival of Islamic Heritage. Each of these projects plays a vital role in preserving and promoting the unique heritage of Makkah, a city that holds immense importance for millions of Muslims worldwide.

Additionally, the Royal Commission's pavilion provided valuable insights into Makkah's ongoing infrastructure developments. A notable feature is the public transportation system, which includes 12 bus routes that connect all neighborhoods. This system is designed to facilitate seamless and reliable travel, significantly enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visiting pilgrims.

This year’s World Travel Market event concluded on Thursday, and it was marked by the launch of the Kingdom’s participation through the Saudi Land Pavilion. Ahmed Al-Khateeb, the Saudi minister of tourism and chairman of the Saudi Tourism Authority, emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to becoming a leading tourist destination. He stated, “Saudi Arabia, the fastest-growing tourist destination globally, seeks to solidify its leadership in world tourism, aligning with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals by highlighting unique destinations, new projects, and significant investment opportunities.”

Al-Khateeb further noted, “Saudi Arabia is the largest global investor in the tourism sector.” This statement underscores the Kingdom's ambitious plans to attract tourists and enhance its tourism infrastructure, which is crucial for its economic diversification efforts.
