Pakistan has expressed its support for the recent provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) directing Israel to cease its military operations in Rafah. The ICJ ruling mandates that Israeli authorities must keep the Rafah crossing open for the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid and ensure unrestricted access to the Gaza Strip for UN-mandated investigative bodies.

The Foreign Office spokesperson emphasized Pakistan's backing of South Africa's application against Israel under the 1948 Genocide Convention, which led to the ICJ's decision on additional provisional measures. Pakistan has urged immediate and complete compliance with the ICJ's directives, calling on the UN Security Council to intervene in ending Israel's military actions in Gaza, facilitating humanitarian aid, protecting civilians, and holding Israel accountable for its actions.

Pakistan reiterated its steadfast support for the Palestinians' right to self-determination, advocating for a secure and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Meanwhile, Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank have welcomed Spain, Ireland, and Norway's recognition of Palestine as a state. The Palestinian Authority notes that 142 out of 193 UN member states already acknowledge the existence of a Palestinian state, although opinions differ on the significance of this move.

Pakistan's support for the ICJ's decision reflects its commitment to upholding international law and advocating for the rights of Palestinians. The recognition of Palestine by various countries signals a growing global acknowledgment of the Palestinian statehood issue. It is crucial for all parties involved to work towards a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians.
