Priyanka Chaturvedi Questions Temple-Mosque Disputes in India

In recent times, India has witnessed a troubling trend of communal polarization, particularly surrounding the sensitive issues of temples and mosques. The misuse of the Places of Worship Act in various district courts has led to violence and tragic loss of life, a situation that Chaturvedi finds alarming.

Highlighting the recent violence in Sambhal, which resulted in the loss of over four lives, she warned that such disputes could potentially spread to other sensitive areas like Ajmer, Nizamuddin, and Haji Ali. The ongoing tensions surrounding the Ajmer Sharif dargah in Rajasthan further illustrate the precarious nature of communal relations in the country. Chaturvedi did not shy away from criticizing the Uttar Pradesh government for its failure to maintain law and order during the unrest in Sambhal, stating, "The loss of lives and property in Sambhal clearly shows the UP government's failure. Either they were incapable of controlling the situation, or they allowed it to escalate for political gains."

In addition to her comments on communal issues, Chaturvedi also addressed the political landscape in Maharashtra. She criticized the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, labeling it as unstable. She pointed out the acting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's recent absence from crucial meetings and the delays in forming a new government. "If everything is fine, why did Shinde return to his village after meeting BJP leaders in Delhi? This ongoing uncertainty is against Maharashtra's interests," she remarked. Despite rumors of a potential swearing-in on December 5, no formal announcements have been made, leaving many in suspense.
