Russian Airstrikes Wound 15 in Kharkiv, Ukraine

In a troubling escalation of violence, Russian forces launched air attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, on Sunday. This assault, which involved guided aerial bombs, resulted in injuries to at least 15 individuals, as reported by Kharkiv Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has seen Kharkiv frequently targeted since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022, highlighting the city's precarious situation amidst the war.

According to Governor Syniehubov, the recent attacks caused significant damage to the local infrastructure. Two residential buildings were hit, and numerous other structures, including two supermarkets, a cafe, 21 kiosks, and a shopping center, suffered damage. Among those injured were four employees from the interior ministry, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the violence.

In a related incident, a five-storey apartment building in Kivsharivka, a small town near Kupiansk, east of Kharkiv, was severely damaged. Volodymyr Tymoshko, the head of the regional police, confirmed that three residents lost their lives in this attack. While rescue efforts were underway, they faced significant challenges due to the ongoing Russian bombardments, which hampered the ability to reach those trapped or in need of assistance.
