Saudi entrepreneurs share vital insights at the Misk Global Forum in Riyadh, emphasizing passion, skills, and collaboration for business success.
In the vibrant city of Riyadh, the Misk Global Forum recently served as a platform for Saudi entrepreneurs to share their insights and experiences in the world of business. This event brought together industry leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs to discuss the essential skills needed to navigate the challenges of starting and growing a business. The discussions highlighted the importance of passion, mindset, and community in achieving entrepreneurial success.
During a panel discussion titled "Dream, Do, Dare: The Entrepreneur’s Cookbook," Essa Behbehani, the CEO of Prepline, emphasized that passion alone is not enough to build a successful business. He stated, "If you don’t channel your passion for executing a business, then you simply have a hobby." This statement underscores the need for a structured approach to entrepreneurship, where passion must be paired with practical skills and strategies.
Behbehani outlined four key roles that contribute to business success: investor, manager, developer, and craftsman. He explained that each role is interdependent, meaning that success in one area often relies on the strengths of the others. Reflecting on the evolution of business practices over the past two decades, he noted that the focus has shifted from merely having a good product to incorporating a mindset that prioritizes speed and quality.
"Mindset nowadays is everything — without a mindset, you can never grow a business," Behbehani remarked. He cautioned entrepreneurs against the pitfalls of concentrating solely on product excellence, asking, "What are you going to do with an amazing product without the right mindset and the right speed to execute it?" This highlights the necessity of a balanced approach that includes both product development and strategic execution.
In the same session, Abdullah Al-Saleem, the CEO and co-founder of Mushtari, shared his perspective on the importance of seeking guidance in business. He stated, "Every time is the right time to seek help," emphasizing that continuous learning is vital for growth. Al-Saleem recommended a two-pronged approach to seeking advice, suggesting that entrepreneurs should consult both general business experts and industry-specific professionals. This dual approach ensures that entrepreneurs receive well-rounded guidance tailored to their unique challenges.
Using the restaurant industry as an example, Al-Saleem explained how he would consult general experts for foundational issues like hiring and cash flow, while turning to industry specialists for more specific operational advice. He stressed that gathering advice is just the beginning; involving the team in the decision-making process is crucial. "When I take all these ideas or all these bits of advice, I brainstorm it with the team," he said, highlighting the importance of collaboration in implementing solutions.
Ultimately, the discussions at the Misk Global Forum served as a reminder that entrepreneurship is not just about having a great idea; it is about building a strong foundation through teamwork, continuous learning, and a proactive mindset. As aspiring entrepreneurs reflect on these insights, they are encouraged to embrace both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. By fostering a culture of collaboration and open-mindedness, they can navigate the complexities of the business world and turn their dreams into reality.
