The Competition Appellate Tribunal upholds CCP's ruling against electric cable manufacturers for deceptive marketing practices. Fines imposed for concealing cash coupons emphasize the importance of transparency and ethical standards in the market.

The Competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT) has upheld the ruling of the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) against electric cable manufacturers for engaging in deceptive marketing practices. The investigation revealed that 18 companies had been concealing cash coupons inside bundles of electric wire without informing consumers, leading to unfair advantages for electricians and misleading end consumers.

CCP imposed fines on several companies, including M/s. Fast Cables and M/s. G.M Cables, for violating consumer rights by providing false and misleading information. These companies had included tokens/cash coupons in their product packaging without disclosing them, contrary to the Competition Act, 2010.

Despite appeals from some manufacturers, the CAT upheld most of the penalties imposed by CCP, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fair practices in the market. While fines were reduced for M/s. Fast Cables and G.M Cables, the message is clear: deceptive marketing will not be tolerated.

Consumers deserve honesty and transparency from businesses. It is crucial for companies to uphold ethical standards and prioritize consumer interests to maintain trust and integrity in the market.
