The COMSATS Centre for Climate and Sustainability in Islamabad conducted a workshop on Carbon Credits and Carbon Markets, educating stakeholders on key concepts and practices in the context of COP28 discussions. The event highlighted the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and showcased Pakistan's efforts in leveraging carbon markets for sustainability.

On May 5th, 2024, the COMSATS Centre for Climate and Sustainability in Islamabad conducted an in-house training workshop focusing on 'Carbon Credits and Carbon Markets.' The event aimed to educate stakeholders on carbon market mechanisms, particularly in light of discussions at COP28 where Article 6 was pivotal.

The workshop, held at the COMSATS Secretariat, covered topics such as Carbon Trading Mechanisms, Project Cycle, Key Players in the Carbon Market, and Core Carbon Principles. Participants gained insights into understanding their carbon footprints and setting up National Emissions Trading Systems.

Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director of COMSATS, highlighted the organization's role in leveraging carbon markets for mutual benefit. Dr. Sohail Malik from the Climate Resourcing Coordination Centre discussed Carbon pricing instruments for decarbonization objectives and international practices in carbon markets.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination shared a case study on project registration with carbon standards Verra, emphasizing the integration of carbon credits towards Pakistan's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Ms. Minha Hanif from Resources Future provided insights into the project cycle of carbon credits and engaged participants in interactive discussions to enhance their understanding.

The workshop underscored the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and highlighted Pakistan's efforts in this regard. It also shed light on emerging global carbon markets and their impact on decision-making processes.
