The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has applied for a Rs2.9402/kWh electricity price increase for March 2024, citing fuel charges adjustments. The proposal reflects the complexities of the energy sector in the country.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has recently submitted an application to the power regulatory authority to raise the electricity price by Rs2.9402 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for March 2024. This request was made at the behest of Distribution Companies (DISCOs) in the country.

In their application, the CPPA stated that the total electricity generated using various fuels in March 2024 amounted to 8,023 gigawatt hours (GWh) at a cost of Rs8.3109 per unit. This increase in price is being attributed to fuel charges adjustments for the specified period.

The proposal for the price hike comes amidst ongoing discussions and debates regarding the cost of electricity in the country. The authorities are expected to review the application thoroughly before making a final decision on whether to approve the suggested increase.

The potential electricity price hike for March 2024, as proposed by the CPPA, reflects the complex dynamics of the energy sector in the country. As stakeholders await the regulatory authority's decision, the implications of such a change on consumers and the overall energy landscape remain to be seen.
