IESCO raises concerns over Rs 71.16 billion unpaid electricity bills by government institutions, urging prompt settlement to avoid power supply disruptions.

Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has identified a significant issue with government institutions failing to pay their electricity bills, resulting in a total outstanding amount of more than Rs 71.16 billion. This non-payment has raised concerns about potential disruptions in power supply if the dues are not settled promptly.

The list of defaulting institutions includes prominent names such as the government of AJK, Ministry of Defence, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Cantt Boards, Ministry of Railways, Federal Police, and others. The government of AJK leads the list with an outstanding amount of Rs 54,862 million, followed by the Ministry of Defence at Rs 5,295 million, CDA at Rs 4,063 million, and Cantt Board Chaklala at Rs 1,642 million.

Furthermore, hospitals under the Federal Government, Punjab Police, Ministry of Health, and various other government departments also feature in the list of defaulters. IESCO has issued a stern warning to these institutions, urging them to clear their dues within a week to avoid any disruptions in electricity supply. The heads of these institutions have been advised to contact the relevant revenue office or the Commercial Directorate at IESCO Headquarters for assistance.

It is crucial for government institutions to fulfill their financial obligations, including electricity bills, to ensure uninterrupted services for the public. Timely payment of dues not only maintains a smooth power supply but also reflects responsible governance. By settling their outstanding amounts promptly, these institutions can contribute to the efficient functioning of the electricity distribution system and uphold their commitment to serving the citizens.
