Microsoft and BTG Pactual Lead Carbon Offset Deal

Brazilian investment bank BTG Pactual's forestry division, BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group (TIG), recently completed a groundbreaking agreement with tech giant Microsoft. This deal involved the sale of 8 million carbon offset credits, making it the largest transaction of its kind so far.

The sale, although exact financial terms were not disclosed, has been verified by MSCI Carbon Markets as the most significant carbon dioxide removal credit transaction ever recorded. Carbon offsets are essential for companies to offset their greenhouse gas emissions by supporting emission reduction projects elsewhere.

Each carbon offset credit represents the removal of one tonne of carbon dioxide emissions, helping organizations meet their environmental goals. These credits were generated through forest restoration projects in Latin America managed by BTG Pactual TIG.

Microsoft, the buyer of these credits, has not yet issued an official statement about the deal.
