Nestlé Pakistan announces plans to increase exports to $50 million by 2030, emphasizing local sourcing and sustainability.
In a significant move that aligns with the government’s economic ambitions, Nestlé Pakistan has announced an impressive plan to boost its packaged food exports to $50 million by the year 2030. This announcement was made during a ceremony titled "Limitless Possibilities," which highlighted the company’s remarkable journey in exports over recent years. Nestlé has successfully expanded its reach to 26 countries, generating a notable USD 23 million in exports in 2024 alone.
Federal Minister for Industries & Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, emphasized the importance of exports in Pakistan’s economic recovery. He stated, "As Pakistan progresses towards economic growth and recovery, the importance of exports cannot be overstated. Given the scale of Nestlé’s global operations, we anticipate that exports from Pakistan will scale up further in the next few years." This statement underscores the critical role that companies like Nestlé play in enhancing the country’s foreign reserves.
Jason Avanceña, the Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Pakistan, expressed the company’s commitment to being a positive force in the country’s future. He remarked, "As we celebrate 35 years of operations in Pakistan, we are committed to be a force for good throughout our value chain for the future of the country by boosting exports and earning foreign revenues for the country." This commitment is not just about profits; it reflects a dedication to the overall well-being of the nation.
Looking ahead, Nestlé Pakistan aims to expand its global reach significantly by 2030. Avanceña pointed out that achieving these ambitious goals will require streamlined regulatory processes, fair trade agreements, and export incentives. These elements are crucial for supporting the company’s growth and ensuring that it can compete effectively on the international stage.
Claudia Thomas, Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Switzerland in Pakistan, also praised Nestlé for its contributions to the country’s economic plans. She noted that it is exciting to see Nestlé playing such an important role in fostering economic development.
Beyond mere transactional exports, Nestlé Pakistan has been proactive in generating demand for its brands through innovative digital communications and robust trade activations. The company’s high-quality products have established a strong presence in various markets, including Afghanistan, the USA, the UK, the UAE, and many others. This extensive reach not only enhances brand visibility but also contributes to the overall economic landscape.
In addition to its export ambitions, Nestlé Pakistan has made significant investments in renewable energy, committing Rs2 billion last year to launch multiple solar power plants and biomass boilers at its manufacturing sites. This move not only supports sustainability but also demonstrates the company’s commitment to local development.
Furthermore, Nestlé has strengthened its localization efforts, sourcing over 90% of its raw and packaging materials locally. This includes sourcing 420 million liters of milk, over 7,500 metric tons of wheat and rice, and 50,000 tons of local fruits. Such initiatives not only enhance the livelihoods of local farmers but also contribute to the overall economic stability of the region.
With four manufacturing sites across Pakistan, Nestlé is dedicated to providing tasty and balanced diets for millions of Pakistanis. Last year alone, the company served 2 billion fortified servings of nutritious products, catering to various occasions and life stages. This commitment to health and nutrition is vital for the well-being of the population.
Nestlé Pakistan’s ambitious export plans and commitment to local sourcing and sustainability reflect a broader vision for economic growth in the country. As the company continues to expand its global footprint, it not only enhances its own prospects but also contributes significantly to the economic landscape of Pakistan. The collaboration between the private sector and government initiatives is essential for fostering a resilient economy, and Nestlé’s efforts are a testament to the potential that lies within the nation.
