Pakistan Petroleum Limited commences oil and gas production from Adhi South-9 well in Punjab, enhancing the country's energy sector.

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has recently made a significant announcement regarding its operations in the oil and gas sector. The company has officially commenced hydrocarbon production from a new development well, known as the Adhi South-9 well, which is situated in the Pothwar region of Punjab. This development is particularly noteworthy as PPL is one of the key players in the exploration and production of natural gas in Pakistan.

In a notice shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), PPL expressed its satisfaction with the progress made at the Adhi South-9 well. The company stated, “We are pleased to disclose that as part of our continuous efforts towards increasing production of oil and gas, production has commenced from Adhi South-9.” This well is part of the Adhi Mining Lease, where PPL holds a 39% working interest, collaborating with joint venture partners Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), which hold 50% and 11% working interests, respectively.

The Adhi South-9 well was drilled to a depth of 3,430 meters and has been completed as a producer based on promising log results. PPL further elaborated, “Subsequent to tie-in of the well with the plant, production from the well has commenced at the rate of 530 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 0.6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas.” This production rate is a positive indicator of the well's potential and contributes to the overall energy needs of the country.

Exploration activities in the Adhi area date back to 1956, and over the years, several wells have been drilled. The field began producing crude oil in the early 1980s from the Sakesar reservoir. Major clients for the Adhi field include Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for gas, Attock Refinery Limited for LNG and crude oil, as well as various LPG marketing companies.

Earlier this year, in July, PPL had also commenced hydrocarbon production from the Adhi South-8 well, showcasing the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its production capabilities. Last year, the company initiated production from the Adhi South-6 well, further solidifying its position in the market.

The commencement of production from the Adhi South-9 well is a promising development for Pakistan's energy sector. As the country continues to seek ways to meet its growing energy demands, the efforts of companies like PPL play a crucial role. With the ongoing exploration and production activities, there is hope for increased energy security and economic growth in the region. The advancements in the oil and gas sector not only contribute to the national economy but also create job opportunities and foster technological advancements in the industry.
