The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority introduces a new fee structure for telecom equipment registration to streamline regulatory processes and support the telecommunications sector in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a new fee structure for the registration of telecom equipment and devices. This initiative aims to streamline regulatory processes and support the telecommunications sector in Pakistan. The new fees will cover application processing, administrative tasks related to issuing Certificates of Compliance (CoC), and adjustments to the current type approval fee system.

Previously, the PTA did not charge any administrative fees for CoC issuance. However, with the upcoming changes, application fees for CoCs will be introduced. These fees are intended to cover regulatory expenses such as staffing, paperwork management, CoC distribution, communication with relevant entities, GSMA TAC database subscriptions, and the maintenance of the DIRBS platform.

Mobile Device Manufacturers (MDMs) raised concerns about the proposed fees in letters dated April 22, 2024. Following a consultation session with the PTA on May 14, 2024, revisions were made to the initial fee proposal. The Type Approval Directorate is overseeing the implementation of these changes.

The new fee structure will apply to different categories, with charges for MDM applications varying based on the quantity of devices. Fees will double for applications exceeding 1,000 units, with incremental increases for every additional 1,000 units. The PTA has distinguished between non-refundable application processing fees and Type Approval certificate fees.

The revised fee schedule by the PTA is aimed at simplifying regulatory procedures and bolstering the telecommunications industry in Pakistan. For more information on PTA taxes applicable to all phones, readers can visit the PhoneWorld PTA Taxes Portal.
