The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce, led by Senator Anusha Rahman Ahmad Khan, focuses on enhancing export volume through strategic fund allocation and addressing organizational challenges in Pakistan's key industries.

The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce recently highlighted the importance of allocating the Export Development Fund (EDF) towards projects that aim to enhance the country's export volume. Led by Senator Anusha Rahman Ahmad Khan, the committee discussed updates from the Ministry of Commerce and its affiliated organizations.

The Trade Dispute Resolution Organisation (TDRO) shared insights into its role in resolving disputes between companies and serving as the secretariat for the Trade Dispute Resolution Commission. Concerns were raised about the delay in appointing the chairman and Board of TDRC, attributed to pending rules from the Cabinet.

Furthermore, the committee addressed the prolonged vacancy in the position of Director-General of TDRO over the past three years, underscoring the government's dedication to the organization. The CEO of Pakistan Expo Centre provided an overview of the company's operations, managing expo centers in Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta. While Lahore Expo Centre is operational, construction of Peshawar and Quetta Expo Centres remains ongoing.

Senator Anusha Rahman Ahmad emphasized the need for EDF funds to be directed towards projects that enhance export volume rather than constructing Expo Centres. The committee also evaluated the performance of Lahore and Faisalabad Garment Cities, noting their profitability but limited output due to funding constraints.

Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the Ministry's initiatives to diversify exports and address challenges in garment cities. Senator Anusha Rahman stressed the importance of allocating funds for capacity building in profitable organizations. The meeting was attended by various senators, the Federal Minister for Commerce, the Secretary for the Ministry of Commerce, and senior officials from relevant departments.

The Senate Committee's focus on utilizing the Export Development Fund for projects that enhance export volume underscores the government's commitment to boosting the country's exports. By addressing issues in trade dispute resolution, organizational leadership, and strategic fund allocation, the committee aims to strengthen Pakistan's position in the global market and support the growth of key industries.
