The World Culture Festival in Karachi begins today, celebrating global cultures with diverse performances and international participation.
The World Culture Festival Karachi is set to commence today, marking a significant cultural event in Pakistan. Organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi, this festival aims to celebrate the rich tapestry of global cultures while showcasing the artistic talents of local and international performers. The festival will take place at the Haseena Moin Hall and will run for an impressive 35 days, concluding on October 30.
During a grand press conference, prominent figures such as the renowned intellectual and satirist Anwar Maqsood, President of the Arts Council, Mohammad Ahmed Shah, and Sindh Minister for Culture Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah shared their excitement about the festival. Shah announced that the inaugural ceremony will be led by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, setting the stage for a vibrant celebration of arts and culture.
The festival promises a diverse array of activities, including 40 theatre performances, 55 music performances, 50 dance performances, 20 workshops, 10 talks, and 5 fine art exhibitions. Attendees can look forward to traditional folk performances from various regions of Pakistan, including Gilgit, Kashmir, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh. Shah emphasized that the festival will feature performances in multiple languages, including Urdu, Sindhi, and English, reflecting the country’s rich cultural heritage.
In a remarkable display of international collaboration, 40 countries will participate in the festival, including Palestine, Turkey, India, and many others. This gathering of nations is not only a celebration of culture but also a testament to the hard work and dedication of the people of Sindh. Anwar Maqsood highlighted the significance of this event, stating, "At a time when people are leaving the country, it’s wonderful to see 40 countries coming to Karachi. This is a testament to Sindh’s hard work and love."
Moreover, the festival will feature performances by renowned artists such as Akhtar Chanal, Wahab Bugti, and Mai Dhai, along with traditional music and dance forms. The inclusion of qawwali and classical dance performances will further enrich the festival experience, making it a must-visit event for art enthusiasts.
As the festival unfolds, it is expected to enhance Pakistan’s cultural image on the global stage. The Sindh government has assured full support for the event, ensuring that all necessary security measures are in place. Secretary of the Arts Council, Ejaz Farooqi, expressed gratitude towards President Mohammad Ahmed Shah for his efforts in organizing such a monumental event, stating, "A festival of this magnitude has never been held in Pakistan before."
