Sindh's Government holds an awareness session on gender-based violence at brick kilns, promoting women's rights and safety.
In recent years, gender-based violence has emerged as a critical issue in many societies, including Pakistan. Women, particularly those working in vulnerable sectors such as brick kilns, often face significant challenges and threats to their safety and well-being. Recognizing the urgent need for awareness and action, the Government of Sindh has taken steps to address this pressing concern.
On the directives of Provincial Minister for Women Development Department, Government of Sindh, Shaheena Sher Ali, a one-day awareness session was held at brick kilns in Tando Hyder, Hyderabad. This initiative was organized by Sayeda Qurat ul Ain Shah, a Senior Psychologist from the Deputy Directorate of the Women Development Department. The session aimed to educate workers about their rights and the importance of a violence-free environment.
During the session, the Provincial Minister emphasized her commitment to ending violence against women, particularly those employed in brick kilns. She stated, "We must ensure that every woman feels safe and empowered in her workplace and home." This sentiment was echoed by Qurat Shah, who recently completed training at the JICA headquarters in Japan on Gender-Based Violence (GBV). She has been assigned a project in collaboration with JICA to promote women's and children's rights in the brick kiln sector.
Qurat Shah highlighted the importance of education and health as fundamental rights protected by the Constitution of Pakistan and international humanitarian law. She pointed out that many women and children working in brick kilns are deprived of these essential rights. "Education and health are not just privileges; they are basic rights that every individual deserves," she asserted.
Furthermore, Qurat Shah expressed her determination to extend this initiative to other cities in the province, ensuring that more women and children benefit from the program. She assured the participants of her full support in empowering them financially, stating, "We want to help you live better lives and secure a brighter future for your children."
The session concluded with a strong message of hope and empowerment. The Women Development Department, under the leadership of the Provincial Minister, is committed to creating a society free from violence against women. This initiative is a significant step towards fostering a safer and more equitable environment for all, particularly for those in vulnerable positions.
As we reflect on the importance of such initiatives, it becomes clear that awareness and education are vital in combating gender-based violence. By empowering women and ensuring their rights are recognized and upheld, we can work towards a future where every individual, regardless of their circumstances, can live with dignity and respect.
