Farmers in Hafizabad rally for higher wheat prices, demanding Rs. 5000 per 40 kg supporting price. PASSCO sets up 20 procurement centers to facilitate wheat procurement. Deputy Commissioner ensures distribution of empty sacks for farmers.

Farmers in Hafizabad took to the streets in a rally to voice their discontent over the delayed procurement of wheat and the proposed supporting price of Rs. 3900 per 40 kg. Led by prominent figures such as Central Vice-President Kisan Board Pakistan Amanullah Chatha, Malik Shoukat Ali Phulrawan, and Rai Imdad Ali, the rally commenced from Alipur Road and culminated at Fawara Chowk.

The farmers expressed their dissatisfaction with the current supporting price, stating that it does not reflect the true value of their hard work. They demanded an increase in the supporting price to Rs. 5000 per 40 kg, highlighting the financial challenges they face due to selling their produce at low prices to middlemen.

Deputy Commissioner Sundas Irshad informed that Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO) has initiated the distribution of empty sacks ('Bardana') to farmers for wheat procurement. PASSCO has set up 20 procurement centers in the district to facilitate the process. The target for wheat purchase in Hafizabad this year is 14 lakh bags.

The farmers' plea for timely procurement and a higher supporting price underscores the pressing need to address the challenges faced by agricultural workers in Pakistan. The government's response to these demands will be crucial in ensuring the welfare of farmers and the stability of the agricultural sector.
