Free Shelter Homes Launched in Sindh for Underprivileged

Kandhkot, Sindh - In a commendable effort to support the underprivileged, a series of shelter homes have been launched in Sindh, providing free lodging and meals to those in need. This initiative is spearheaded by Farzana Khoso, a dedicated social activist and lawyer, who has devoted her life to helping the homeless, orphans, and widows across the country.

Farzana Khoso, a strong and inspiring figure, has established various trusts and organizations aimed at serving humanity. Her journey began in a region where women often face significant barriers to education and professional opportunities. Despite these challenges, Farzana has emerged as a beacon of hope, advocating for the rights of women and children.

Born into a family of social activists, Farzana was influenced by her father, Abdul Razaque Khoso, who was also a prominent figure in social work. She pursued her education in her hometown and became an advocate in the High Court of Pakistan. Farzana provides legal and counseling services to victims of domestic abuse and violence, highlighting her commitment to social justice.

Recognizing the dire situation of many women and children living on the streets, Farzana decided to establish a shelter for those in need. Her shelter, named “Fairy Home,” was founded in 2018 in Sukkur and currently houses over 120 children aged between 1 to 17 years. The shelter not only provides food and clothing but also focuses on education, ensuring that the children are enrolled in private schools and receive the necessary support for their studies.

Farzana’s organization, the Farzana Welfare Trust (FWT), plays a crucial role in the lives of these children. The trust covers school fees, uniforms, and even transportation, ensuring that the children have access to quality education. Additionally, a medical team conducts weekly check-ups to monitor the health of the children, emphasizing the holistic approach taken by the trust.

Farzana believes in the power of love and compassion, often quoting verses from the Quran that emphasize the importance of feeding the hungry and caring for orphans. She finds joy in being called “Mama” by the children at Fairy Home, stating, “I feel relieved and very comfortable when they call me Mama.” This bond reflects the nurturing environment she has created for them.

With a dedicated staff of 20 women, the shelter ensures that the children receive love and care. The staff members are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment, attending to the children’s daily needs, including feeding, bathing, and changing their clothes.

In addition to basic care, the trust organizes various activities and games for the children, promoting their physical and emotional well-being. Farzana’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, as she expresses gratitude for being chosen to serve those in need, particularly vulnerable children and widows.

The establishment of shelter homes in Sindh is a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by the homeless and underprivileged.
