In the rapidly evolving landscape of the 21st century, the concepts of society, state, and nationhood have become increasingly significant, especially in the context of Pakistan. Understanding these elements is crucial for the youth, who are the future leaders and decision-makers of the country. Recognizing this need, the Directorate of Students’ Affairs (DSA) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a seminar titled “Society, State, and Nationhood in the 21st Century” on Tuesday at the male campus of the university.

The seminar featured Brigadier (Retired) Tahir Mehmood as the chief guest. He is a well-respected figure known for his extensive contributions to the national print media and his insightful writings. During his presentation, Brigadier Mehmood elaborated on the intricate relationship between society, state, and the concept of nationhood, particularly within the framework of Pakistan and its historical context. He emphasized the importance of understanding the historical foundations of Pakistani nationhood, both before and after the creation of the country.

Brigadier Mehmood, who has served for three decades in the Pakistan Army, also held significant roles in the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate, including Director Publications and Chief Editor of several monthly magazines. His experience and insights provided the students with a deeper understanding of the challenges and responsibilities that come with nationhood.

During the seminar, President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, commended the organizers for their efforts in arranging such an important event for the university's youth. He expressed hope that similar seminars would be organized in the future to further inspire and empower students. Dr. Sarwar highlighted the vital role of teachers in nation-building, stating that they are the cornerstone of a prosperous society. He urged students to respect one another and uphold the law and humanity, which are essential for fostering a strong nation.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Sarwar emphasized that the future of Pakistan relies heavily on the learning process of its youth. He encouraged students to focus on their education and personal development to contribute positively to society. The seminar was attended by a large number of students, along with notable figures such as Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashed, Director General of the International Institute of Islamic Economics (IIIE), and Dr. Hafiz Ghufran Ahmed, the male Students Advisor.

Dr. Hafiz Ghufran Ahmed expressed gratitude to Brigadier Mehmood, the IIUI leadership, and the students for their active participation in the event. He assured attendees that the Directorate of Students Affairs is committed to organizing more activities that promote dialogue and counseling among students.

The seminar on “Society, State, and Nationhood in the 21st Century” served as a vital platform for students to engage with important themes that shape their identity and future. As Pakistan navigates the complexities of modernity, it is imperative for the youth to grasp these concepts and actively participate in the nation-building process. By fostering a culture of learning and respect, the next generation can contribute to a more harmonious and prosperous society.
