Deputy Prime Minister of Jordan and Iranian Foreign Minister discuss regional tensions, emphasizing diplomatic dialogue for de-escalation and stability in the Middle East.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi of Jordan held a crucial meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in New York during the Security Council's session on the Middle East. The discussion primarily focused on regional developments, efforts to end the conflict in Gaza, and the potential risks of escalation in the broader region.

Safadi emphasized Jordan's firm stance on not allowing its territory to become a battleground for Iran and Israel. He asserted that Jordan would confront any violations of its airspace or threats to its security and citizens. Additionally, Safadi highlighted the significance of Iranian media refraining from disparaging Jordanian positions and symbols, as well as downplaying Jordan's longstanding support for the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the necessity of de-escalation in the region, starting with halting the aggression in Gaza. While expressing Jordan's interest in fostering positive relations with Iran, Safadi underscored the importance of addressing sources of tension and refraining from interference in Jordan's internal affairs.

Amirabdollahian, on his part, reiterated Iran's respect for Jordan and its positions, clarifying that any negative portrayals in certain Iranian media outlets did not reflect Tehran's official stance or its relationship with Amman. He assured that Iran had already responded to the attack on its consulate in Damascus and aimed to avoid further escalation. The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed Iran's eagerness to engage in dialogue with Jordan to explore opportunities for enhancing bilateral ties.

In conclusion, the meeting between Safadi and Amirabdollahian highlighted the complexities of regional dynamics and the importance of diplomatic engagement in mitigating tensions and promoting stability in the Middle East.
