Lahore authorities seal 52 shops for violating smog-related closing hours to protect public health.
In recent weeks, Lahore has been grappling with severe smog, prompting local authorities to take decisive action to mitigate its effects. The district administration has implemented strict regulations regarding business operating hours, aiming to reduce pollution levels during peak smog conditions. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to protect public health and ensure the safety of residents during this challenging season.
As a result of these efforts, approximately 52 shops were sealed across various areas of Lahore for failing to comply with the mandated closing times. The regulations stipulate that markets must close by 8 PM, while restaurants are required to shut their doors by 10 PM. The enforcement of these rules has been rigorous, with officials working late into the night to ensure compliance.
The crackdown on violators was widespread, affecting multiple tehsils within the city. Specifically, five shops were sealed in Model Town, 11 in Allama Iqbal Town, and 10 in City Tehsil. Additionally, five shops located at Jallo Mor Bazaar, GT Road Shahdara, and Windala Road were also shut down. In Raiwind Tehsil, nine shops faced closure, while five shops in Wagah Zone and seven in Shalimar Tehsil were sealed as well. This comprehensive approach underscores the administration's commitment to enforcing the rules without bias.
Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza has urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during this period of heightened smog. It is essential for residents to be aware of the health risks associated with poor air quality and to follow guidelines that can help mitigate these dangers.
The sealing of these shops serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to regulations designed to protect public health. As Lahore continues to battle the challenges posed by smog, it is crucial for both businesses and residents to cooperate with local authorities. By working together, the community can contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.
