Pakistan and Belarus reaffirm commitment to deepen cooperation in trade, agriculture, and technology during a joint press conference.
On Tuesday, Pakistan and Belarus took significant steps to strengthen their bilateral relations, focusing on enhancing cooperation in various sectors such as trade, agriculture, food, defence, and technology. This agreement marks a pivotal moment in the long-standing political ties between the two nations, aiming to transform these relations into tangible benefits for both countries.
During a joint press conference, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed their commitment to realizing several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements. They emphasized the importance of converting these understandings into actionable plans by February next year. Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the productive discussions held during their meeting, which covered a wide range of topics including commerce, tourism, and defence.
Prime Minister Sharif praised President Lukashenko’s dedication to turning their discussions into practical agreements. He mentioned that both sides would convene later in the day to finalize a roadmap for cooperation in key areas such as agriculture, joint ventures, mining, information technology, and heavy machinery manufacturing. This collaborative effort is expected to culminate in further discussions in Minsk, where arrangements will be made for the signing of agreements in February.
In addition to economic discussions, the leaders addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where thousands have lost their lives. Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude to President Lukashenko for supporting the Kashmir cause, emphasizing that global peace remains elusive until such issues are resolved.
President Lukashenko acknowledged the importance of the MoUs signed between the two nations and commended Prime Minister Sharif’s vision for transforming bilateral understandings into concrete actions. He reiterated Belarus’s readiness to share technology and expertise with Pakistan, aiming to leverage the potential of both countries for mutual benefit.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening friendly ties across various domains, including political, trade, economic, cultural, and social sectors. They recognized the need for advancing political dialogue and strengthening inter-parliamentary relations, which are crucial for fostering a collaborative environment.
One of the key agreements signed was the "Roadmap for Comprehensive Cooperation between the two countries for 2025-2027," which outlines a strategic framework for enhancing economic ties through high-level meetings and targeted initiatives. The agreements also focus on vital areas such as environmental protection, disaster management, halal trade, and vocational education.
Furthermore, the two nations agreed to collaborate in the automotive sector, aiming to boost industrial growth and innovation through partnerships between private and public organizations. This initiative is expected to enhance the manufacturing and servicing of vehicles, tapping into the strengths of both countries.
The recent agreements between Pakistan and Belarus signify a promising future for their bilateral relations. By focusing on cooperation in diverse fields, both nations are poised to unlock new opportunities for economic growth and development. As they work towards finalizing these agreements, the potential for mutual benefit and shared prosperity is greater than ever, paving the way for a stronger partnership that can withstand the test of time.
