Pakistan faces earthquake threats, emphasizes disaster preparedness

Recently, parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, experienced an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale. The tremors were felt in various cities, with areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Peshawar, Swat, and Parachinar being significantly affected. The earthquake originated in southeastern Afghanistan.

In a separate incident, Karachi faced a 3.2 magnitude earthquake in the Clifton neighborhood, adding to a series of minor tremors in the city. This seismic activity underscores the region's susceptibility to earthquakes, with previous occurrences on May 2 and April 24 in different parts of Karachi.

Pakistan's geographical location, situated at the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, exposes it to natural disasters like earthquakes. The movement of the Indian plate towards the Eurasian plate results in seismic events in South Asia.
