PCRWR flags 19 bottled water brands as unsafe due to microbiological and chemical contamination, urging consumers to prioritize safety and quality.

The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has recently identified 19 bottled mineral water brands as unsafe for human consumption. This decision came after examining 185 samples from 21 cities in the 1st quarter of 2024. The unsafe factors ranged from microbiological to chemical contamination, raising serious concerns about the quality of these popular water brands.

Among the identified issues, high sodium levels were detected in brands such as Hensley Pure Water, Pure Life, Natural Pure Life, Klear, Am Mughal Pure Water, and Nero. Nero also exceeded the permissible Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) limit, further highlighting its unsuitability for consumption. Additionally, brands like Cleana, Orwell, and Still were flagged for containing high levels of arsenic, a toxic substance harmful to human health. Furthermore, a troubling discovery was made that thirteen brands were contaminated with bacteria, posing a significant health risk to consumers.

PCRWR's proactive approach to monitoring bottled water brands is commendable, as it ensures public safety by providing detailed reports on their website for increased awareness. By conducting regular examinations and promptly addressing safety concerns, PCRWR plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health of the population.

The findings by PCRWR serve as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance when it comes to consuming bottled water. Consumers are urged to prioritize safety and quality when selecting water brands, and to refer to PCRWR's reports for informed decision-making. By staying informed and making conscious choices, individuals can protect themselves from potential health hazards associated with contaminated water sources.
