PIA firmly denies allegations of selling engines at low prices, emphasizing transparency and commitment to employee welfare.

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has recently found itself at the center of controversy following allegations made by the Society of Aircraft Engineers. This newly elected body has raised serious claims against the national airline, particularly regarding the supposed sale of ten engines from PIA's fleet at an unreasonably low price. Such accusations, if true, could have significant implications for the airline's reputation and operations.

In response to these allegations, PIA has firmly denied any wrongdoing. A spokesperson for the airline stated, "There is no truth to the claims made by the society’s newly elected president regarding the sale of ten engines from PIA’s fleet at a minimal price." The airline emphasizes its commitment to transparency and insists that the engines in question are completely unusable. In line with standard practices in the aviation industry, PIA has issued a tender for the sale of these obsolete engines, ensuring that all relevant public procurement laws are being followed.

Furthermore, the spokesperson highlighted that the revenue generated from the sale of these engines will be reinvested into the airline to purchase necessary parts, thereby helping to keep the aircraft operational. This approach not only supports the airline's financial health but also ensures that PIA can continue to serve its passengers effectively.

In addition to addressing the engine sale allegations, PIA's spokesperson provided updates on employee welfare. They confirmed that the pension and provident funds for PIA employees have already been transferred to the PIA Holding Company, and all employee dues are being paid punctually. Regular distributions of pensions to retired employees are also being maintained, reflecting the airline's commitment to its workforce.

It is important to note that recruitment within PIA has been suspended since 2017, following directives from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. However, the airline does make contractual hires for specific positions required by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, ensuring compliance with all regulations.

While the allegations raised by the Society of Aircraft Engineers are serious, PIA has taken a strong stance in defending its practices and operations. The airline's commitment to transparency and adherence to regulations is crucial in maintaining public trust. As PIA navigates these challenges, it remains essential for the airline to focus on its core mission: providing safe and reliable air travel for its passengers. The ongoing developments will be closely watched by both the public and industry stakeholders, as they reflect the broader health of Pakistan's aviation sector.
