PTDC announces a photographic contest for International Mountain Day, focusing on sustainability and youth engagement with cash prizes for winners.
International Mountain Day, celebrated annually on December 11, is a significant occasion that highlights the importance of mountains in our lives. This year, the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) is taking a step further to honor this day by launching a photographic competition. The theme for 2024 is "Mountain Solutions for a Sustainable Future-Innovation, Adaptation, and Youth." This theme emphasizes the need to protect our mountainous regions while promoting sustainable development.
The initiative aims to engage the youth, inspire innovative ideas, and raise awareness about the vital role mountains play in ensuring a sustainable future. Mountains are not just beautiful landscapes; they are crucial for biodiversity, climate regulation, and the livelihoods of many communities. By encouraging participation in this competition, PTDC hopes to celebrate Pakistan's rich natural heritage and promote responsible tourism.
Photographers, whether amateur or professional, are invited to showcase their talent through this unique opportunity. Participants are encouraged to capture the stunning beauty of Pakistan's mountains while reflecting the spirit of sustainability. The competition features two categories: amateur and professional. In the amateur category, the top three winners will receive cash prizes of Rs30,000, Rs15,000, and Rs10,000, respectively. For professionals, the prizes are even more enticing, with Rs50,000 for first place, Rs30,000 for second, and Rs20,000 for third.
Entries for the competition must be submitted by December 02 through the designated online portal. Selected photographs will be displayed at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) on International Mountain Day, providing a platform for photographers to share their work with a wider audience. This exhibition will not only showcase the beauty of mountains but also highlight various mountain-related elements, including culture, heritage, the lifestyles of mountain communities, adventure sports, and the diverse flora and fauna found in these regions.
Participating in this photographic contest is more than just a chance to win prizes; it is an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause. By capturing the essence of mountains and promoting sustainable practices, photographers can play a vital role in raising awareness about the challenges faced by these ecosystems. As we celebrate International Mountain Day, let us remember the importance of preserving our natural landscapes for future generations. Engaging in such initiatives not only fosters creativity but also encourages a deeper appreciation for the environment around us.
