The Supreme Court of Pakistan is petitioned to enforce the National Action Plan (NAP) to combat terrorism, focusing on the high threat levels in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Efforts to restructure Nacta for enhanced counter-terrorism strategies are underway.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has been petitioned to enforce the National Action Plan (NAP) aimed at combating terrorism, as reported by The News. The NAP was devised following the tragic 2014 Army Public School attack, with a 20-point strategy outlined by the National Counter Terrorism Authority and approved by the parliament in December 2014. Despite efforts such as Operation Zarb-e-Azb and Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, terrorism remains a significant threat, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Recent data from the Centre for Research and Security Studies revealed that during the first quarter of 2024, Balochistan and KP accounted for over 92% of all fatalities and 86% of attacks in the country. Balochistan suffered 41% of all fatalities, while KP faced 51%. The rest of the regions experienced relatively lower levels of violence, with less than 8% of all fatalities.

In addition to casualties, there were 64 incidents of sabotage targeting government, political, private, and security properties. The government has announced plans to restructure Nacta to enhance counter-terrorism efforts and ensure full implementation of the NAP, with a focus on modernizing strategies to eradicate terrorism and extremism.
