The University of Karachi's Syndicate meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, has given initial approval for the establishment of a medical and dental college within the university. This decision marks a significant step towards enhancing healthcare education within the institution.

During the meeting held at the VC Secretariat, members emphasized the importance of presenting a comprehensive feasibility report and objective analysis for further review. The conceptual approval now sets the stage for engaging potential stakeholders to participate in the upcoming medical and dental college project.

In addition to this milestone, the Syndicate also endorsed the minutes of the Finance and Planning Commission meeting that took place on December 29, 2023. They proposed an early revision of the 2024-25 budget and approved appointments of chairpersons and directors in various departments and institutes.

Furthermore, the Syndicate granted permission for faculty, staff, and employees of centers to hold funerals in the campus graveyard. They also agreed to upgrade assistant professors (temporary) to BPS-19 and in-service lecturers with a PhD qualification to BPS-18, contingent upon the availability of budgeted positions in relevant departments.

Lastly, the Syndicate assigned the task of reviewing past resolutions regarding the upgradation of non-teaching positions to the KU Registrar, Professor Dr Abdul Waheed. A report on this matter is expected to be presented at the next meeting, demonstrating the university's commitment to continuous improvement and development.

The University of Karachi's Syndicate meeting outcomes reflect a proactive approach towards enhancing academic and administrative aspects within the institution. The approval for the medical and dental college establishment, along with other decisions made during the meeting, underscores the university's dedication to fostering growth and excellence in education and healthcare.
