The Attorney General of Pakistan argues against the Special Interest Committee's request for reserved seats, emphasizing adherence to electoral laws and the importance of marginalized groups' representation in the political landscape.

The Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) has submitted a 30-page argument to the full court, advocating for the rejection of the Special Interest Committee's (SIC) request for reserved seats. The AGP emphasized the importance of upholding the decision of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) in this matter.

In the submission, the AGP highlighted that the SIC, as a political entity, failed to participate in the general elections and did not comply with the requirement of submitting a list of candidates for reserved seats for women and non-Muslims as mandated by Section 104 of the Election Act, 2017.

The issue at hand revolves around the allocation of reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in the political landscape of Pakistan. These reserved seats aim to ensure adequate representation for marginalized groups in the decision-making process.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the stance presented by the Attorney General sheds light on the importance of adherence to electoral laws and procedures. Upholding the integrity of the electoral process is crucial for maintaining transparency and fairness in the democratic system.
