Balochistan requests mobile service suspension on Nov 13-14 for by-election security following the death of Sardar Domki.
In a significant move ahead of the upcoming by-election in Balochistan’s PB-8 constituency, the Balochistan Home Department has formally requested the Ministry of Interior to suspend mobile phone services in the Sibi and Kachhi districts on November 13 and 14. This decision is primarily aimed at ensuring law and order during the election period, as stated in a letter sent to the interior ministry.
The by-election is set to take place on November 14, following the unfortunate passing of Sardar Sarfaraz Chakar Domki, Balochistan's municipal minister. Domki, who was a prominent leader and chief of the Domki tribe, passed away in September after battling lung and kidney disease. He had previously secured over 27,000 votes as a candidate for the Pakistan Peoples Party-Parliamentarians (PPP-P) in the last election.
In addition to the suspension of mobile services, the Balochistan Home Department has also recommended a temporary shutdown of PTCL services. These measures are part of a broader strategy to maintain a secure and orderly voting process, reflecting the department's commitment to safeguarding the electoral process.
As the election date approaches, the Ministry of Interior has yet to confirm whether it will act on these recommendations. The suspension of mobile services is a common practice in many regions during elections, aimed at preventing any potential disruptions or unrest that could arise from the misuse of communication technologies.
The upcoming by-election in Balochistan is not just a routine electoral event; it is a crucial moment for the constituents of PB-8. The measures being taken by the Balochistan Home Department highlight the importance of ensuring a peaceful and fair voting environment. As citizens prepare to cast their votes, it is essential to remember that every vote counts, and participating in the democratic process is a vital responsibility for all.
