A seminar in Tharparkar highlighted the Consumer Protection Act 2014, emphasizing consumer rights and legal recourse for grievances.

In a bid to educate the public about their rights as consumers, a seminar was conducted at the bar council hall of District and Sessions Court Tharparkar in Mithi. The focus of the seminar was to shed light on the Consumer Protection Act 2014, which aims to safeguard the interests of general consumers.

The Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate, Imtiaz Ali, emphasized the significance of this law in protecting the common people's rights. He highlighted that many individuals are unaware of the provisions of the act, which hinders them from fully benefiting from it. Ali stressed that every citizen has the right to demand a proper receipt for their purchases. If a consumer suspects overcharging or the sale of substandard goods, they can lodge a written complaint with the shopkeeper or company. If the issue remains unresolved after fifteen days, the consumer can seek redressal through the consumer court without any fixed fee or the need for a lawyer.

Ali further explained that the court, upon receiving a claim, will investigate the matter and mediate between the parties involved. Penalties for non-compliance with court orders include fines ranging from fifty thousand to two lac rupees or imprisonment for up to two years, with the possibility of both penalties being imposed simultaneously. Additionally, false claimants will face legal consequences, underscoring the importance of citizens being well-informed about the law to protect their fundamental rights.

The seminar on the Consumer Protection Act 2014 in Tharparkar served as a crucial platform to raise awareness about consumer rights and legal recourse available to address grievances. By empowering consumers with knowledge of their entitlements under the law, the event aimed to promote fair practices and accountability in the marketplace, ultimately ensuring the protection of fundamental rights for all.
