GNN TV journalists face violence during Gujrat by-election coverage

During the coverage of the by-elections in Gujrat, GNN TV journalists and a cameraman were subjected to violence by officials wearing masks. Cameraman Raees Dilawar was illegally abducted and tortured during his custody, while the journalists of the team were also severely mistreated. The masked men took them into custody and moved them to an unknown location. Raees Dilawar was detained for over an hour, preventing him from fulfilling his duties. After senior journalists intervened, the cameraman was released, but other correspondents remain missing.

Journalists expressed outrage at the incident, calling it a violation of press freedom. They emphasized the need for strict action to prevent such occurrences in the future. The Lahore Press Club president condemned the abductions and torture, urging authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety of journalists.

Arshad Ansari, a journalist, highlighted the challenges faced by media personnel and vowed to continue advocating for the rights of journalists. He demanded justice for the abducted reporters and cameramen, stressing the importance of upholding press freedom.
