Imran Khan's Supreme Court hearing reveals acknowledgment of oversight, emphasis on parliamentary engagement, and court's commitment to fair proceedings.

During a recent Supreme Court hearing on the review of NAB amendments, Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, acknowledged his mistake of not attending parliament. The conversation with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa shed light on Khan's concerns about what he perceived as an unofficial imposition of 'martial law' in the country. He alleged that his swift conviction within five days was a deliberate move to hinder his participation in the upcoming general elections.

Speaking via video link from Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, Khan expressed his grievances regarding the perceived victimization he has faced since being ousted from power in April 2022. The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, attentively listened to Khan's arguments during the NAB amendments case hearing.

Chief Justice Isa advised Khan to refrain from discussing cases not yet before the court and stressed the significance of parliamentary engagement. Khan admitted his lapse in not attending parliament, acknowledging the economic challenges the country faces and the necessity of collaborating with parliamentarians.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Isa inquired about the amnesty granted by Khan, to which Khan clarified its purpose of formalizing the black economy. The chief justice urged Khan to address political issues internally with parliamentarians, avoiding court involvement.

Khan drew a comparison between his jail conditions and those of another political figure, requesting a facility assessment. Chief Justice Isa proposed a surprise visit by a judicial officer for evaluation. Khan also mentioned a case from India during the hearing, expressing disappointment over the court's decision not to live stream his proceedings.

Upon concluding his arguments, Chief Justice Isa appreciated Khan's input and reserved the decision. The Supreme Court dismissed NAB's response in the amendments case, demanding a ten-year budget record from NAB and allowing parties to submit responses within seven days.

The Supreme Court hearing involving Imran Khan and the NAB amendments shed light on the importance of parliamentary engagement and internal resolution of political issues. Khan's acknowledgment of his oversight and the court's emphasis on collaboration with parliamentarians highlight the significance of constructive dialogue in governance. The court's decision to request further documentation and allow responses demonstrates a commitment to thorough examination and fair proceedings.
